Biography
Reginald Walter was born in Penn, Staffordshire on 9 April 1893, to parents Walter and Sarah Davis. He had a younger brother, Ronald. In 1911, the family were living at 5 Sandfield Road, Higher Bebington, Cheshire. Reginald was listed as a motor engineer.
He enlisted in the Cheshire Regiment and served from 3 September 1914 to 20 April 1916. On enlistment his father was named as next of kin living at 10 Village Road, Higher Bebington, Birkenhead.
On 21 April 1915, he transferred to the Royal Flying Corps as an air mechanic and served with 25 Reserve Squadron, based in Thetford, Norfolk.
On 31 May 1916, he wrote in the visitors’ book that he was travelling from Thetford to Liverpool to go on leave and changed trains at Peterborough.
Reginald was awarded the 1914/15 Star, British War and Allied Victory Medals.
On 1 April 1918, he transferred to the newly formed Royal Air Force and to the RAF ‘G’ Reserve on 4 March 1919. He attended Unit 50 Training School and was an aircraft engine fitter.
