Biography
Fred Smith passed through Peterborough East Station on 6 July 1916. He was serving with the 3/4 Lincolnshire Regiment and was based at Saltfleet, near Grimsby. He wrote in the visitors’ book:
“My ink is pale my pen
is blunt for you my
love will never fail
with the best of luck to all
who reads this.”
Fred’s service record has not survived, but from his medal card we know that he also served with the Royal Warwickshire Regiment. He served overseas as he was awarded both the British War and Allied Victory Medals.
