Biography
Private John Lancaster was serving with the Royal Garrison Artillery when he passed through Peterborough East Station on 5 July 1916. He wrote in the visitors’ book:
“Breathes there a man with soul so dead
Who never to himself has said
When he banged his toes against the bed
! ! ! ! ! ! !”
