Biography
Private John W Starkey passed through Peterborough East Station and signed the visitors’ book on 23 July 1916. At that time, he was serving with the 2/7 Battalion of Princess Louise’s (Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders) Regiment. The battalion had formed at Stirling so it is possible that he was from the region. In March 1916, the battalion moved to Norwich and Private Starkey writes that he was stationed at Edenthorpe Camp, North Walsham, Norfolk. http://bit.ly/2mOzitR
We have been unable to locate his service record, but from his medal card we know that he went on to serve with the Seaforth Highlanders and the Tank Corps.
