Biography

Sergeant Herbert Cattell was serving with the Machine Gun Corps and stationed at Grantham when he passed through Peterborough East Station on 6 February 1917 and wrote in the visitors’ book:

“Many Thanks are due to you
For Allowing me to write within this Book
Perhaps you will think of me
When on this page you look”

Unfortunately, Herbert’s service records could not be located but his medal card reveals that he was awarded the British War and Allied Victory medals and 1914 Star with Clasp and Roses.  For more about the 1914 Star please see https://www.forces-war-records.co.uk/medals/1914-star

Initially, Sergeant Cattell served with the 2nd Bedfordshire Regiment before transferring to the Machine Gun Corps.
